Am I suitable?

Implants can help the vast majority of people who have lost some or all of their teeth. Losing your teeth can be an awful and distressing experience – as can the prospect of a lifetime of removable dentures. Denture wearers also suffer gradual bone loss that can make their denture loose or painful, affect confidence and alter their facial profile. The loss of teeth and the inability to chew properly has been linked with deterioration in general health.

In broad terms, if you are healthy enough for routine dental care (fillings, extractions etc.) then you would be ok for implants.

There are a few medical areas where the relative risks of unsuccessful implant therapy are increased so we will take a detailed medical history as part of your initial visit to find out if any of them apply to you.

We usually consider implants from seventeen years upwards but you can never be ‘too old’ to be considered.

We are happy to see you if smoke; however smoking does affect the body’s ability to heal and therefore we have proven smoking reduction programmes that have been helpful for many clients.

We assess every case individually so that we can do what we can to reduce the risk factors as far as possible. There are areas which patients have control over such as poor diet and cleaning which can affect the situation and there are other important areas such as gum disease which can present complexities to deal with.
