Implants can be used to totally replace dentures with fixed teeth that don’t move and don’t need to be taken out. In some cases we can fit these bridges on the day the implants are placed! Implants can be used to stabilise dentures providing a solid base on to which they can ‘click’ home. Where some teeth remain, implants can be linked together to create a fixed bridge or if you have lost a single tooth, an implant and crown can avoid the need for a conventional bridge.
We will provide you with the level of information that you feel comfortable with, providing as much or as little detail about your treatment as you require.
First and foremost it is important to make sure that you have healthy teeth and gums. Before any implants are placed, we will asses the condition of your mouth. If there are any signs of gum disease or decay which may affect your plan we will liaise with your Dentist to ensure these are treated.
Your treatment will be planned especially for you following a full and thorough evaluation. We often use low dose digital radiography accurate models and mock ups of our proposals. For many they benefit from the latest in 3D digital CT scanning.
We are one of only a handful of practices in the UK to have invested in this technology which has a similar dose to a normal dental x-ray but gives amazing detail of the bone under the gum. This allows us to be much more accurate with our plan and combine the information with the latest guiding devices for ultra accurate treatment with faster treatment time and greater comfort.
We normally use local anaesthesia (numb gum) during treatment although sedation treatment is sometimes used if it is a long procedure or if you are anxious. We use dedicated surgeries and the best cross infection procedures following the latest guidelines which are acknowledged to be among the finest in the world.
Implants are either restored with new temporary teeth straightaway or buried beneath the gum to heal. Over time implants join with your own bone to become part of you.
When it is ready, we uncover the implant (if necessary) and test for successful healing with a sophisticated probe. At this point you are ready for the last stage – getting your teeth!
As you go along through treatment we will show you the best way of looking after your new smile with our Hygienist or Therapist.
Once your treatment is complete we will ensure you and your Dentist have all you need for long term maintenance and we will arrange periodic reviews to keep things under a close check.
Your Dentist will receive a summary of what has been done and full details of the components we used. Our main implant system is one of the worlds most recognised and so even if you move to another country there are a network of specialists to continue looking after you.
